Renewing Our Open Source Pledge for 2025

The open source ecosystem continues to be the cornerstone of Node.js development, and as we enter 2025, Platformatic proudly renews our commitment to the Open Source Pledge.
Another Year of Supporting Open Source
As a development platform for Node.js with an open source offering, Platformatic remains deeply invested in the sustainability of the projects and communities we depend on. Our renewed commitment to the Open Source Pledge reflects our understanding that thriving open source software requires more than just code contributions—it requires financial support for the maintainers who keep these critical projects running.
The Pledge Continues
As a signee of this pledge, we commit to paying a minimum of $2,000 per year per full-time developer to open-source maintainers of their choice.
Our 2025 Commitment
Building on our 2024 contributions, we're proud to announce our continued financial support for the open source ecosystem in 2025. This year, we've strategically allocated our resources to maximize impact across the Node.js ecosystem.
"The health of the open source ecosystem directly impacts the success of everyone building on Node.js," said Matteo Collina, co-founder and CTO of Platformatic. "As maintainers ourselves, we understand the challenges of sustaining open source projects. Our continued commitment to the Open Source Pledge isn't just about giving back—it's about ensuring the foundation we all build upon remains strong and vibrant."
Our 2025 Contributions
This year, we're proud to support the following organizations and initiatives:
OpenJS Foundation - $5000
- Continuing our support for this vital organization that fosters the growth of JavaScript and related technologies, directly supporting the development and maintenance of key Node.js projects.
Linux Foundation - $5000
- Maintaining our commitment to this neutral hub that enables developers and organizations to code, manage, and scale open technology projects and ecosystems.
GraphQL Foundation - $2000
- Supporting the vendor-neutral development of GraphQL through continued investment in documentation, tools, and community events.
OpenAPI Initiative - $500
- Contributing to the standardization and evolution of API descriptions under the Linux Foundation's open governance structure.
Forbes Lindesay - $500
- Supporting individual maintainers who contribute essential tools to the ecosystem.
Undici HTTP Caching Implementation - Undisclosed amount
- This year, we sponsored Aaron Snell's groundbreaking work on bringing HTTP caching to Node.js through Undici, a significant enhancement that will benefit the entire Node.js community.
This year, we're reporting over $16,000 for our 8 developers.
Beyond Financial Support
Platformatic's commitment to open source extends well beyond monetary contributions. Our team actively maintains and contributes to critical projects in the Node.js ecosystem.
Our co-founder and CTO Matteo Collina continues to lead Fastify development, while also maintaining Undici, with the recent v7 release bringing significant improvements to Node.js HTTP client capabilities.
Our team's open source contributions span diverse areas of the ecosystem. Paolo Insogna created @platformatic/kafka, addressing the need for a modern Kafka client for Node.js. Stephen Belanger developed @platformatic/php-node to seamlessly blend PHP with Node.js, and created react-pprof, introducing next-generation flamegraphs for Node.js performance profiling.
Our Node.js Core team—comprising Stephen Belanger, Paolo Insogna, and Matteo—dedicates significant time each week to improving Node.js itself, including participation in collaborator summits throughout the year.
We remain committed to volunteering on various OSS projects with "no strings attached," focused purely on improving Node.js and its ecosystem for everyone.
Looking Forward
The sustainability of open source software isn't just a technical challenge—it's a community responsibility. By renewing our Open Source Pledge for 2025, we're reinforcing our commitment to ensuring that the maintainers who power our digital infrastructure receive the support they deserve.
For enterprises relying on open source technology, supporting these projects isn't optional—it's essential for mitigating business risks including vulnerability exposure, performance degradation, and community fragmentation. The Open Source Pledge provides a clear framework for organizations to contribute their fair share.
Join Us
We encourage other companies benefiting from open source to consider joining the Open Source Pledge. Together, we can ensure that the open source ecosystem remains vibrant, secure, and sustainable for generations of developers to come.
Thank you to all the maintainers, contributors, and community members who make the open source ecosystem what it is. Your dedication and hard work power the innovations that drive our industry forward.
